Sump Pump
Liner
A sump pump liner is a liner that you put underneath/around your sump pump. This liner performs
a variety of functions. For one, it allows water to seep in without letting things like gravel or dirt in.
Since a sump pump is usually mounted below ground, this is very important. Allowing gravel or
dirt to get into the sump pump can damage it, which is why a sump pump liner is necessary. A lot of people use a
lot of different materials for their sump pump liner, but we will discuss the most popular ones here.
First of all, most people use new, solid sump pump liners, sometimes also called sump
basins or sump pump pits, and these tend to work the best. Basically, you will dig down, bury this liner
so that it’s top is flush with the ground level, and then put the sump pump inside. These are easy to install, work
very well, and really help to keep everything out of the sump pump. They allow water to seep through via little
holes in the side, but these holes are not big enough to allow gravel or dirt to come through, which can really
help keep your sump pump clear of debris.
Some people put black plastic down to line their sump pumps, and this will work, but it is not really as
effective as a solid plastic sump pump liner. For one, this plastic tends to creep down over time, because there is
no real way to keep it up. And for another, this plastic does not help keep the dirt out as much. On the flipside,
it is better than nothing, and it is cheaper, so it is an option, but not the best one.
Basically, a sump pump liner needs to keep debris away from your sump pump, so really, anything
that will get this done will do you well. Also, remember that there is a difference between outdoor use and indoor
use. Some sump pumps are put underneath a house in the crawl space, but some are actually put in the
basement....which means that, if the floor of your basement is concrete, you cannot really use a solid sump pump
liner unless it is specially fitted. Hopefully, you will be able to find one that does fit the specific space
needed...but if not, there is always the plastic, or some other home-made type set-up.

Whichever way you go, a sump pump liner should not cost you too much money. You will find that, of the entire
assembly, this will be one of the most inexpensive parts. It is almost like an afterthought…except that it is a lot
more important than that! Your sump pump really needs a liner or basin to keep from getting damaged, especially if
it is in your crawlspace and subject to dirt or gravel. In this case, a sump pump liner is definitely
necessarily.
So, order your sump pump liner online today...and remember, even if you think it costs too much, it is better
than having to buy a new sump pump!
