Utilizing a water powered sump pump can be extremely cost effective.  You'll save yourself needless worry because there is no battery to wear out.  Without a battery, you won't have to spend any of your precious time monitoring, maintaining, charging or ensuring a battery is plugged in.  In essence, a water powered sump pump demands no power, have no movable parts, and of course no battery.  It is a smart option and perfect solution for your business or your home.

A water powered sump pump is used for drainage that transfers an accumulation of water from a sump pit or another location.  Most often located in the basement of homes, a sump pit is simply a hole below the normal basement foor surface to which excess water is funneled.

The water can come in through drains in the basement, or could come from an increase in the naturally occurring fluctuation of ground water levels. Needless to say when you get a water powered sump pump is in a class all by itself and typically placed in the basement.

All in all, water powered sump pumps are set up in basement areas of the home where potential for flooding is considered a problem.  However, it is also used to improve dampness by lowering the water table under the foundation.  A sump pump pipes water from the affected area to areas of where flooding isn't at risk of occuring, where flooding won't damage any property, and in urban locations sometimes to city drains. In older homes, the sump pump may be connected to the sanitary sewer.  This is now against plumbing code since this set up can overwhelm the municipal sewage treatment system.

And nowadays, the basement is not simply a place for storage in most homes.  The basement has been turned into dens, playrooms for children, home entertainment centers, and exercise rooms.  The thing to remember is that many homeowner's insurance polices do not cover issues from flooding.  And if a flood were to occur, your basement and everything in it could sustain severe damage.

In the event of the failure of your main sump pump, the financial loss can be devastating.  So having a water powered sump pump as a backup is a great idea.
